The last 2 months has been a bit hectic. Starting with moving apartments at very short notice. We have still not fully unpacked. Within one weekend we had to pack our old apartment and move it all to the new apartment. The new apartment is much nicer though so I shouldn’t complain. The living room is big enough for me to have a permanent sewing table, which is lovely, and my husband has his own office now. Then it was my friends birthday so we jumped on a train and went to Hong Kong for a few days, I was hoping to do a little fabric shopping but that never happened. It was a great few days in HK and I can always go fabric shopping another time. Now the summer holiday is coming to an end so I am preparing classes for next semester I am teaching the same course so everything is ready it just needs some tweaking.

Before we moved I finished making the cotton dress based on the in the Met, and finally took pictures of it. I tried to block out the ugly curtains in our new apartment.

Since then I have been helping sew dog accessories for a local dog shelter one of the shelters that helped in the recent dog meat recuse. I have made some things for them to sell to raise money.

Now I am not working on anything but I am finding it hard to get motivated to sew anything, I was working on a black 1890s corset but I can’t find it since the move. I was also working on a 1700s Pierott Jacket I just need to cut and sew the sleeves but I hate sleeves, so not doing that until I’m in a better mood.

Must think positive, get up and do something!

I am going through a learning curve with this site, but I think I am getting there now.
I have been working hard on a 1700s Anglaise, it’s based on this one from the V & A collection

The only change I have made so far was to give it long sleeves I am trying to stay close to the original. I still need to finish the collar, cuffs, hem and front closure.

Progress so far

I had some problems with the waist, but thanks to hiraimi on LJ I think I just need to raise the waist.

Also this is defiantly the last dress I sew completely by hand, arthritis and carpal tunnel in my fingers are not fun!

I have not forgotten my grand statement of starting a new, however I am not going to become a social media goddess over night, I’m trying.

I’m still waiting for my sewing machine to be fixed, fingers crossed I will get the call tomorrow.

I did finish a mock up of the 1880s corset I want it to be similar this one;

of course it will be black to go under the black dress I hope to make, I haven’t decided what color the flossing will be yet. A lot of boning is not in the mock up yet, but generally I am happy with the shape, uhmm please ignore the dirty mirror :)

I have no plans to hand sew a corset so while waiting for my sewing machine I have been working on a regency shawl, I always wanted one of those really big ones. I have seen plenty of shawls with white on white embroidery, but I wanted a bit of color in mine, progress is slow but it is going in the right direction. If anyone knows of any color embroidered ones that would be really appreciated, i can only find woven and printed.

I like many others have moved over from LJ. I haven't done this just because the majority of other people have made the move (though that did play a factor) I moved because I wanted a new start.

I am not very good at updating information on online journals, and I don't create dresses as quickly as other people nor are my photos taken in beautiful places, not doing a good job of promoting myself here huh! but this is due to laziness more than anything else. I recently finished working on a masters and got lazy when I finished, I have decided it is time to get off my lazy butt and do something productive.

That includes
1. start sewing more regularly
2. get fit and lose all the weight I put on (Try!)
3. get better at Chinese (its embarrassing that I have lived in China for 9 years and am still not fluent)
4. and try to create better posts on my new journal (I will crosspost to LJ still just because its easy to do)
